Accies u17's win SFL Youth League Cup

Accies under 17's defeated local rivals Clyde in the Youth League Cup Final at New Douglas Park last night after a game that finished 0-0 at full time and 1-1 after extra time with Accies top goalscorer Paul McLeod netting for Accies in the first period of extra time only for Clyde to equalise with 2 mins left in the second period of extra time.

Accies finally won the cup in a penalty shoot out by 4 goals to 1 with Ritchie Porte, David Lynch, Sean Buckley and Graham Tough all scoring for Accies and Goalkeeper Gary McLenaghan pulling off two wonderful saves.

Accies coach Gerry McGregor dedicated the win to former under 17's player, the late James Wilson who recently passed away.

Coach Rab McMillan described the events of this week as being the best week he could remember in all his years of being an Accies supporter.  Rab said, "To see the first team win promotion on Saturday and then to be part of the coaching staff who helped the youth team win the Cup, especially at New Douglas Park is just fantastic, it just doesn't get any better than that for an Accies fan."

The under 17's long unbeaten run finally came to end today at Petershill Park when they lost 5-3 to Clyde in the Youth League Cup.  The match will be remembered more for a bizarre 'Fair Play' incident than Accies great run coming to an end.

James Wilson - Gone but not Forgotten

The funeral service for 16 year old Accies Youth Player James Wilson took place earlier today at High Carntyne Parish Church and then at Daldowie Crematorium for the committal service.

There was a massive turnout of family and friends and a large number of Accies personnel including Scott Struthers, Alan Maitland, Brian McPhee, Jose Quitongo, all the under 19 and under 17 players and Coaches also attended to say their farewells to young James.

The first team will hold a minutes silence before their away match at East Fife tomorrow and also before their first home match against Morton next Saturday in remembrance of young James.  The under 17's will also hold a minutes silence before their League Cup tie with Airdrie United on Sunday.

Our deepest sympathies go to James's family and friends, he will be sadly sadly missed by everyone at the club.

Under 17's Youth Coach

29 March 04:    Sad Sad News

I am very sorry to report the sad news that young James Wilson, who played for the club as a YTS trainee, died yesterday at the age of 16.

James joined the club from Clyde last summer and had come through their youth programme from under 11's to under 15's. This season he played for both our under 17's and under 19's before being diagnosed ill in October last year.  James was a quiet lad who was settling in well at the club and was rated a good prospect by the coaching staff.  Although he had appeared to be recovering and was doing well, he sadly passed away yesterday.

Our sincerest sympathies go to his family and friends.

23 Nov 03:  AYI EDITOR RETURNS

Hi Folks, I'm back! refreshed and raring to go again.  Quite a lot has happened since I've been away and I would like to thank 'Stanistheman' and all our regular 'Posters' for keeping everyone up to date on what's been happening within the Youth System with their very informative posts on the Youth Forum.

I have been looking in from time to time whilst on my travels and was very pleased to see youth player Ciaran Donnelly getting his first team debut and a few others also doing well in the first team.  The Sunderland trip appeared to be a success despite the results and also the under 19's recorded a splendid 2-0 victory over Celtic.

I've had a lot of updating to do on the website as some of the age groups fixtures have changed and results, league tables and scoring charts have all had to be updated, which I'm glad to say have all been done now.

I also received some Action Photos from Sunderland and from the under 14's match against Falkirk courtesy of our roving reporter David Jack, who has been publishing the under 14's match reports via the Youth Forum in my absence, well done David.  I will be processing the Action Photos over the next couple of days and will then upload them to the Photo Gallery.

And now to date,

The under 17's lost 4-2 to Queen's Park at the Ibrox Astro on Friday night with Paul McLeod and Sean Byrne scoring for Accies.

1 Nov 03:  AYI EDITOR ON HOLIDAY

I will be on holiday from tomorrow for a couple of weeks therefore the website will not be updated for that period.  However, 'Stanistheman' will try and keep everyone up to date through the 'Youth Forum' in my absence.  I will log on to the 'Youth Forum' from time to time to how the various teams are getting on so please feel free to keep me informed via the Forum.

Friday evening's practice match at Glasgow Green between the under 17's and under 19's ended up in an enthralling 3-3 draw.  The match proved to be a very exciting encounter which also attracted a sizeable crowd.

The Accies youngsters (under 17's) looked fired up for the occasion and rightly took the lead in 26 mins through Paul McLeod to go in 1-0 up at half time.

The under 17's deservedly doubled their lead when Tony Neil scored in 61 mins and then increased their advantage to 3-0 in 65 mins through Ryan McGregor.

The under 19's, which included no fewer than  8 players with first team experience, then took control of the match and started to apply real pressure on their younger team mates, getting their reward when Martin McGiff scored in 78 mins.  Further goals from Craig Murphy in 83 mins and Mark Gourlay in 85 mins left the under 19's with their pride in tact and the under 17's very disappointed in losing three late goals.

Under 19's Head coach Jim Ward praised the under 17's team for their excellent performance and said that he hoped to see some of the players pushing for places in his under 19's squad, as the season progresses.
